Terms of Service

The terms governing your use of the tropictax calculator and website.

Last updated 2026-05-22.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of tropictax.com (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Estimates only — no professional advice

The Service produces estimates for educational purposes. It is not tax, legal, accounting, investment, or relocation advice. Tax laws are complex, fact-dependent, and subject to change. Outputs may be wrong, out of date, or inapplicable to your situation. Do not make financial or life decisions based on the calculator alone. Consult a licensed CPA, tax attorney, or other qualified professional.

2. No warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

3. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, tropictax and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or tax savings, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our aggregate liability for any claim is limited to USD $100.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to violate any law.
  • Attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer, or scrape the Service at volumes that materially impact other users.
  • Submit false, misleading, or third-party personal data without authority.

5. Intellectual property

The site, code, and content are owned by the operator or licensed from third parties. The underlying calculator source is open source (see GitHub) under its repository license; the marketing content and branding are not.

6. Governing law and dispute resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service that cannot be resolved by informal good-faith negotiation within 30 days shall be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by a reputable arbitrator under commercial rules. You and we waive any right to a jury trial and to participate in a class action, class arbitration, or representative proceeding. If the class-action waiver is held unenforceable, the entire arbitration provision is severable.

This light arbitration clause is not intended to prevent either party from seeking injunctive relief in a court of competent jurisdiction for intellectual-property infringement or unauthorized access.

7. Changes

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance.
